Attack on trike kills woman; man, baby boy wounded

A woman was killed while her two copassengers in a tricycle—a man and his infant son—were wounded when an unidentified gunman fired at the vehicle Tuesday afternoon at the Baseco compound, Port Area, Manila. The fatality was identified as Rogelyn Cabildo, 21, a saleslady at 168 Mall in Divisoria. Wounded were construction worker Jonathan de los Santos, 26, and his 1-year-old son Justin. The three are residents of Baseco. A report by SPO1 Richard Escarlan of the Manila Police District said they were in a tricycle driven by Amelil Mokasibin around 4 p.m. Tuesday when a man wielding a pistol approached and started shooting. The shooter, whose motive for the attack remained under investigation, fled on foot after unloading several rounds. Mokasibin said Cabildo, who was hit in the lower back, died shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital on Delpan Street, where De Los Santos and his son were still confined for gunshot wounds as of Wednesday. Mugged PSG man gets his gun back thru village chair

The government-issued gun stolen from PO1 Claudio Tambalong of the Special Reaction Unit of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) early Monday morning was recovered by the Manila police and returned to Tambalong Tuesday night. SPO1 Abelardo Yumul of the Manila Police District’s Pandacan station said the 9-millimeter Glock 17 pistol was turned over to him by Barangay 829 Chair Romualdo Billanes, who said the gun was given to him by “a resident” whom the local official declined to identify. Yumul said he was still working closely with Billanes and Barangay 832 Chair Ireneo Fernandez in locating the six men who mugged Tambalong and took his gun, cell phone and P6,000 in cash shortly after he stepped out of the PSG compound in Malacañang Park for a snack. Two of the suspects have been identified as Alex Maninang and Abet Ramirez. Annelle Tayao-Juego
