Pacquiao urges Aquino to focus on education reforms

MANILA, Philippines –International boxing icon and Sarangani lawmaker Manny Pacquiao told President Benigno Aquino III to focus on education in his reform agenda.

This as the welterweight champion lauded Aquino for his fifth State of the Nation Address (Sona).

In a statement, Pacquiao said he agrees with Aquino that “reforms in the country’s educational system must still be one of the top priorities of the government.”

Pacquiao added that “public resources invested on education will yield long-term economic growth and build a stronger nation.”

The boxing icon said his priority bills in Congress are those for quality and affordable health services, rights and welfare of Filipino workers, disaster preparedness, as well as for physical fitness and sports development program.

Pacquiao used to be in Aquino’s Liberal Party before he bolted to Vice President Jejomar Binay’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan for the 2013 midterm elections.
