MANILA, Philippines — So as not to be accused of interfering in the judicial process, the authors of a resolution expressing the sense for the Senate to keep the three jailed senators at Camp Crame in Quezon City have decided to withdraw the measure to revise some of its wordings.
But Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, one of the two authors of Senate Resolution 798, said they would still refile the resolution after a review of similar measures filed in the past.
The other author of the resolution is Senator Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan. Both Sotto and Honasan are members of the Senate minority group.
The three jailed senators are Juan Ponce Enrile, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, who are charged with graft and plunder in connection with the P10-billion pork barrel scam.
“I was advised to reword so that hindi ma-misinterpret as interfering with the judiciary,” Sotto said in a text message on Wednesday.
Asked if it was right to say that they would withdraw the measure, Sotto said, “Yes, after a review of past resolutions to make sure we will not interfere with the judicial processes.”
The resolution was filed Monday.
