AS part of the Water Conservation Month Celebration, the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will be holding a series of forum on the importance of protecting the aquifer and natural resources.
On Sept. 16, the first forum was conducted and participated in by property developers and top consumers. Another forum will be held on Sept. 23, 27 and 30 at the MCWD training room.
During the forum, chemist Rebbeca Husayan of the MCWD laboratory explained the water cycle and how it is affected by pollutants resulting to water contamination.
She also explained how human activities contribute to water pollution and the ways to prevent water contamination. Extraction of groundwater has to be regulated as overextraction damages the aquifer.
During the open forum, a representative from Cebu Holdings Inc. revealed that they plan to recycle water and use treated water for their restrooms.
MCWD also offers to fix water leaks and give tips on how to maintain potable water supply.
