Woman, 2 children perish in Davao del Sur fire
DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur—A pregnant woman and her two children died, while her husband and another person were injured in a fire that razed their house in Coronon in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, around 12:40 a.m. Monday.
Sta. Cruz Mayor Joel Ray Lopez on Tuesday identified the pregnant woman as Noriza Hilay, 30, but did not identify her dead children. He added though that they were aged three and two.
Lopez said that according to town’s fire fighters, the woman and her children were having a nap on the house’s second floor when the fire broke out.
Hilay’s husband, Sulpicio, and a neighbor tried to rescue them but they could not get through because the fire was so intense, Lopez said.
Lopez said the two suffered burns while trying to rescue the victims.
The origin of the fire has not been established yet, he said.
