MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III in his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) thanked the global community for their help in the relief and reconstruction efforts in the aftermath of Super Typhoon “Yolanda”(Haiyan).

“Your outpouring of solidarity can never be forgotten by grateful Filipino people. On their behalf, we thank you,” Aquino said in his televised speech Monday.

This statement drew the longest cheers so far in his more than half hour speech as of posting time.

Yolanda flattened coastal towns as the super typhoon, said to be the world’s strongest to hit land, claimed over 6,000 lives.
