MANILA, Philippines –Several resolutions were adopted by the Senate when it opened the second regular session of the 16th Congress on Monday.
The first measure was Senate Resolution No. 768, informing the House of Representatives that there was a quorum in the chamber and that “this body has entered upon the exercise of its function for the second regular session of the 16th Congress of the Philippines.”
A separate Senate Resolution No. 769 was also approved, this time informing President Benigno Aquino III that the chamber has a quorum and that it convened for the second regular session.
Two more resolutions were also adopted by the Senate: House Concurrent Resolution No. 6, providing for both the Senate and the House of Representatives “to hold a joint session “to hear the message of the President of the Republic of the Philippines,” and Senate Concurrent Resolution No.5, creating a joint committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives to notify the President that Congress has been convened and is ready to hear the President’s state of the nation address (Sona) in a joint session of Congress.
The joint session of Senate and House of Representatives will be convened at 4 p.m. this Monday to hear the President’s Sona.
