Cops arrest 8 wanted men in a day
MANILA, Philippines—Police in one day arrested eight wanted fugitives in several parts of the country, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said on Wednesday.
Eight fugitives were collared separately on Monday by different CIDG units in Quezon City, Iloilo and Leyte, Director Benjamin Magalong, CIDG chief, said in a statement.
After seven years in hiding, Emil Calisa, alias Longhair, was arrested by elements of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) as authorities served his warrants for murder and frustrated murder.
Calisa is the second most wanted person on the target list of QCPD. He was arrested on Claro M. Recto Avenue in Manila’s Divisoria District.
“The accused went into hiding for seven years after he got involved in the commission of said crimes that
occurred sometime in 2007 in Barangay (village) Bagbag, Novaliches,” Magalong said.
Article continues after this advertisementIn Iloilo, Rowel Penasales was arrested for violation of Republic Act 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code in Barangay Rizal in La Paz, Iloilo City.
Article continues after this advertisementAlso in the same operation led by Chief Inspector Fernando Salvatierra of the Iloilo Criminal Investigation and Detection Team (CIDT), Ronaldo Deciero was served the warrant for child abuse in Barangay Balasan.
A suspect for violating Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act, meanwhile, surrendered to the Tacloban CIDG. Gavino Verginisa turned himself in to the police after Judge Yolanda Dagandan, of the Tacloban Regional Trial Court Branch 7, issued his arrest warrant.
Arrested for 20 counts of violation of Anti-Bouncing Check Law, Philfa Dela Cruz was caught by Eastern Visayas Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) at the Axa Insurance Company on the third floor of Dynasty Square Building along Zamora street in Tacloban City.
“The accused were brought to the detaining facilities of the operating teams prior to their turned-over to the courts of origin,” Magalong added.
