Aquino’s call dividing Filipinos
President Noynoy polarized the nation when he called on the citizenry to rally behind him against the Supreme Court, which ruled that his Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) was unconstitutional.
In a recent speech, the President urged his supporters to wear a yellow ribbon, yellow being the color associated with the Aquino family.
But starting Monday, judiciary employees throughout the country started wearing red and black colors.
P-Noynoy should be told that calling on his supporters to wear yellow only divides the nation.
He should be reminded that he’s the father of the country and that a good father does not pit one child against another.

Why did the Sandiganbayan have to issue that order suspending Senator Jinggoy for 90 days when he’s already detained?
That’s rubbing salt into a wound. Talk about being OA or overacting.

The news that former National Food Authority Administrator Lito Banayo is facing charges of economic sabotage for allowing massive rice smuggling during his watch is a welcome development.
For a while, many people thought he was untouchable because he was a supporter of former Sen. Ping Lacson, a close ally of President Noynoy.
But the latest news I heard is that Lacson has disowned Banayo because he does not want to be identified with an alleged economic saboteur. Or so I heard.

The National Bureau of Investigation should investigate the reported new angle in the death of Nixon Kua, former tabloid columnist and ex-Philippine Tourism Authority chief.
The official version is that he was killed during a robbery inside his house at the well-secured Ayala Greenfield Subdivision in Calamba, Laguna.
But reports are now surfacing that Kua was killed, not by robbers, but assassins hired by rice smugglers allegedly known to Banayo.

When Banayo was writing a column for a newspaper, he always severely criticized then First Gentleman Mike Arroyo for allegedly being behind anomalous government deals.
Banayo also took potshots at this columnist for being Arroyo’s friend at that time.
There’s a Tagalog saying, “Ang magnanakaw ay galit sa kapwa magnanakaw (A thief abhors a fellow thief).”
Such is life’s paradox.

Agents of the NBI raided a warehouse owned by a farmers’ cooperative in Nueva Ecija on July 15.
They were searching for smuggled garlic but they discovered none.
What they found were garlic, onions and various vegetables harvested by local farmers and stored in the warehouse for distribution to different markets in Luzon and Metro Manila.
The NBI agents, who brought along a news crew from TV5, didn’t have a mission order or a warrant from a court.
They conducted the raid apparently in compliance with the President’s order to seize hoarded garlic.
They would violate the human and constitutional rights of citizens just to please the President.

During the time of President Gloria, the NBI was used by her husband Mike to harass his personal enemies and critics.
The premier law enforcement agency hasn’t changed since then.
