1.6M Filipinos still reeling from ‘Glenda’—NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines – As the death toll and damages from “Glenda” continue to climb, so does the number of people affected by the typhoon, which disaster authorities said was now at 1.6 million.

At least 330,433 families or 1.6 million people are still reeling from the destruction wrought by Glenda to their property and means of livelihood, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said in its 6:00 p.m. report Saturday.

It added that 518, 764 individuals were still in 1,200 evacuation centers.

The death toll from typhoon “Glenda” climbed to 89 while the damage to property rose to P7.6 billion, the NDRRMC said.

It said 62 of the fatalities were from the battered provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon (Calabarzon).

The agency said 308 individuals were injured while seven people remained missing.

“Glenda,” the seventh and the strongest typhoon to enter the Philippines this 2014, devastated the Visayas and parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, on July 15 and 16.
