‘Glenda’ now under West PH Sea; NCR, 13 other areas still under Signal No. 1

MANILA, Philippines—Typhoon “Glenda” is now over the West Philippine Sea as it veers away from the country as of Wednesday afternoon, the state weather bureau said, but 14 areas—including Metro Manila—are still under public storm warning signal number 1.

In its latest weather bulletin issued 5 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Glenda was spotted at 160 kilometers west of Zambales at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The typhoon is moving towards Bajo de Masinloc, Zambales or west northwest at 24 kilometers per hour, Pagasa said.

Glenda has maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kilometers per hour.

Pagasa forecasted that Glenda will be at 630 kilometers west of Dagupan city, Pangasinan, or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday afternoon.

Signal number 1 is raised in the following areas: Laguna, Batangas, northern part of Occidental and Oriental Mindoro, Zambales, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Lubang Island, Pangasinan and Metro Manila.

Six confirmed dead

In a report by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, six people died as “Glenda” battered several provinces in Visayas and Luzon.

Reynaldo Hernandez, 49-year-old, died when a fallen tree crushed him in Bulacan.

In Lucena, a concrete wall from an adjacent house collapsed on the home of Neneth Artificio, 48, her pregnant daughter Arlyn Cabaleda, 20, and Adrian Artificio when “Glenda” hit Quezon province after making landfall in Bicol on Tuesday evening.
