Meralco eyes 60% power restoration before midnight
MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Electric Company on Wednesday said it was hoping that 60 percent of its franchise area would have electricity before midnight.
Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga told a radio station that about 3,000 crewmen were fielded in various parts of Metro Manila to conduct assessment and restoration work.
“Two transmission facilities in the south were badly hit by the typhoon, severely affecting power distribution in Meralco franchise area, mostly in the southern part of Metro Manila,” Zaldarriaga said.
“Parts of northern Metro Manila are much in better shape,” he said, as power lines in the northern region were spared by Typhoon “Glenda.”
Currently, Zaldarriaga said, the southern franchise area draws power from the north.
According to Zaldarriaga, crewmen are stepping up repair work in badly affected areas to speed up power restoration.
