MANILA, Philippines—A total of 4,622,560 Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) consumers have no electricity due to Typhoon “Glenda” (international name: Rammasun).

Meralco Senior Communications Associate Michael Garcia said in a television interview on Wednesday that 86 percent of their customers are experiencing brownouts.

At a press conference aired live over the radio on Wednesday, Meralco said that 100 percent of electricity from Batangas is down. Meralco also said that 99.95 percent of its consumers in Laguna , 99.98 percent in Quezon Province and 94.32 percent in Cavite have no power.

The power outages are due to strong winds that toppled power facilities which deliver power supply from distribution facilities, Garcia said.

In a Twitter post, Meralco said restoration of power supply may take time after “Glenda” wreaked havoc on transmission and power lines of the electric distributor.

Garcia asked for customers’ patience as Meralco could not yet give a definite timeline as to when power will be restored.

“Humihingi kami ng pasyensya na hindi kami makapagbigay ng definite time when we can restore power. Rest assured, we’re doing our best,” Garcia said.

(We are asking for your patience because we could not give a definite time when we can restore power.)
