CIDG arrests 4, seizes 14 firearms

MANILA, Philippines – Members of the Criminal Investigation and Detention Group across two regions arrested four persons for possession of illegal firearms on Friday, a police official said Monday.

Police Director Benjamin B. Magalong, CIDG Director, said police detectives from Camarines Norte and Northern Leyte lead the arrests and seizure of 14 firearms in separate operations.

Detectives from the 8th Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit under direct supervision of Regional Chief Police Superintendent Bowenn Joey Masauding handed out three search warrants in Barangay (village) Buracan and Barangay Limba in La Paz, Northern Leyte.

Upon the serving of the warrants, the CIDG operatives seized two M1 Garand rifles, one M14 rifle, one M16 rifle, two shotguns, one caliber .45 pistol, one caliber .38 revolver, four rifle grenades and assorted ammunitions.

Graciano Dela Cruz, Elberto Dela Cruz and Jose Dela Cruz, who were the owners of the firearms, were arrested in the operation.

In the Bicol operation, members of the 6th RCIDU under Regional Chief Superintendent Peter Naboye conducted a buy-bust operation for illegal firearms in Abano Street Barangay 1, Daet, Camarines Norte that led to the arrest of Normando Milan.

Operatives from the 6th RCIDU also confiscated one caliber .22 rifle, one 9mm pistol, one magazine and one caliber .50 ammunition.

Milan faces charges in violation of Republic Act 10591 or Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition while the Dela Cruzes face charges in violation of RA 10591 and RA 9516 or Laws on Unlawful Possession of Firearms.

All four are detained in the respective team’s facilities, which arrested them.
