Groups to file impeachment rap vs Aquino on Wednesday
MANILA, Philippines – A militant group on Monday said they would push through with the filing of an impeachment complaint against President Benigno Aquino III after his defense of the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) failed to convince them of its benefits.
“Until now they are unable to fully account for the funds spent. Aquino remains unrepentant to the end,” Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) secretary general Renato Reyes told media.
He claimed that Aquino, during his 23-minute televised speech, only made excuses that no one believed.
“The impeachment now becomes even more necessary in the face of Aquino’s arrogance. We file on Wednesday,” Reyes said.
Groups like Bayan has been calling for the accountability of Aquino for the DAP, which has recently been declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
On Monday, however, Aquino questioned the high court’s ruling and announced that they will file a motion for reconsideration.
