Escalante city’s treasurer’s office robbed of P2M–police

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines — Unidentified robbers took about P2 million from the treasurer’s office at the cash division in the Escalante City Hall in Negros Occidental, police said on Monday.

Supt. Leo T. Batiles, Escalante City police chief, however, said they were still determining the exact time when the robbery occurred as the crime was only discovered by the janitor, whose name police were withholding, at about 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

“The janitor said he only found the steel vault’s door destroyed when he went to the office to clean it. The personnel from the Commission on Elections located beside it said they did not notice anything prior to the discovery of the incident (robbery),” Batiles said.

He said their investigation showed that the main door of the office had not been locked since Friday as the employees were expecting the janitor to come and clean the office.  The janitor, however, said he failed to report on that day. The police are looking into the possibility of an inside job.
