MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III has declared July 29 (Tuesday) a holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan through Proclamation no. 826.

The proclamation, signed last July 10 by Aquino and released on Monday, cited as basis Republic Act no. 9177, which declared Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday throughout the country.

“In order to bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness, it is necessary to declare Tuesday, 29 July 2014, as a regular holiday throughout the country,” the proclamation said.

Eid’l Fitr is celebrated three days after the end of Ramadan or the month of fasting.

Classes are suspended during regular holidays while employees are paid in full even if they do not report for work, and paid in double if they do.
