Classes suspended in Albay due to ‘Glenda’

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Albay Governor Joey Salceda suspended classes in all levels in public and private schools in the province Monday afternoon after the state weather bureau raised storm Signal No. 2 in Albay as Tropical Storm “Glenda” entered the country.

Salceda also prohibited the sailing of fishing boats and passenger sea vessels in all ports in the province.

Residents along steep slopes were likewise advised to identify safer grounds for possible evacuation in case of floods and landslides.Disaster management councils in all levels were directed to activate their operations center and monitor weather bulletins and advisories from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), at 11 a.m., spotted tropical storm Glenda at 620 east of Virac, Catanduanes and 670 east of Legazpi City.

Pagasa said the storm has maximum winds of 95 kilometers per hour with gustiness of 120 kph and moving west at 28 kph.

Public Storm Warning Signal No. 2 was raised over the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes and Sorsogon.

Glenda was forecast to hit Catanduanes Tuesday morning and would move towards the provinces of Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Southern Quezon, Laguna and Metro Manila.
