Aquino to discuss gov’t action on SC’s DAP ruling

MANILA, Philippines – Malacanang on Sunday said that President Benigno Aquino III has read the Supreme Court decision declaring parts of the Disbursement Acceleration Program unconstitutional and is now ready to explain his administration’s actions to the public.

“Pagkatapos ng maingat na pagbabasa at pag-unawa ay nakipagtalakayan po siya (Aquino) sa iba’t ibang mga miyembro ng Gabinete para buuin po ang magiging tugon ng pamahalaan sa desisyon na ‘yan na meron pong malawak at malalim na implikasyon sa ating pamahalaan at maging sa mga mamamayan,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a radio interview.

(After careful study of the document, the President discussed it with his Cabinet members to draft the government’s response to the decision, which has far-reaching implications on the people and the government.)

Coloma reiterated that Aquino’s televised speech on Monday night is part of his attempt to dialogue with the public.

He said they already asked members of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) to air the said speech at 6 p.m. on Monday.

“Humihingi po ang Pangulo ng pagkakataon na makausap ang kanyang mga boss, ang mga mamamayang Pilipino, para magbigay linaw sa mga isyu na humaharap sa ating bansa, kabilang na po ‘yung Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) na kailan lang ay pinagpasyahan ng Korte Suprema,” he said.

(The President is asking for an opportunity to talk to his bosses, the Filipino people, and to shed light on the issues faced by the country, including the DAP which has been decided on by the Supreme Court.)
