MANILA, Philippines—Two were killed and two were wounded as suspected communist rebels attacked a town police station in Surigao del Norte on Thursday afternoon.
About 60 members of the New People’s Army onboard a truck raided Alegria Municipal Police Station at about 3p.m., said First Lieutenant Joe Patrick Martinez, Civil Military Operations officer of the Army’s 402nd Brigade.
The attack lasted for about 30 minutes and the NPA fled towards the villages of Siringan and Bliss in Agusan del Norte.
Two policemen were wounded and losses of six firearms were recorded.
The NPA lost two of their comrades. The police also recovered one AK-47.
Soldiers reinforced the police and clashed with about 15 more rebels near Pungtod village in Alegria town.
