One dead in Maguindanao floods—NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines—The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said it has listed one fatality in the nearly weeklong floods in Maguindanao.

In its bulletin, the NDRRMC identified the dead as Randy Ferenal, 28, who was first reported missing on July 3. He was last Monday.

Ferenal was believed to have drowned while crossing Lipanan River, Birara, Maguindanao the same day he was reported missing.

As of Monday, a total of 19, 837 families or 99, 185 persons from 133 barangays have been affected with the floods.

NDRRMC said the Intertropical Convergence Zone produced heavy rains that flooded Maguindanao with water hyacinths clogging the waterways of Rio Grande de Mindanao and Tamintaka River.

A total of 18 municipalities have been affected by the floods.
