MANILA, Philippines—A day after he spent his first night in detention, Senator Juan Ponce Enrile on Saturday morning was brought to the Asian Eye Institute in Makati City.
Enrile left the Philippine National Police (PNP) General Hospital in Camp Crame with a high security convoy at around 7 a.m. to have his regular eye check-up.
The PNP allowed the request of the senator to undergo eye injection at a private hospital after his camp claimed that he has an eye condition that could lead to blindness.
The senator was brought back to Camp Crame past 8 a.m.
On Friday, Enrile surrendered before the PNP after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant for his plunder charges.
After his booking process, the police decided to detain him at an air conditioned room at the police hospital.
Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said the senator would be under “temporary hospital confinement for further observation due to medical condition.”
During his medical examinations, PNP doctors found out that the senator has a heart murmur or abnormal heart sound.
His arrest warrant would be returned at the Sandignbayan on Monday where the anti-graft court would issue commitment order for the senator’s detention.
