MANILA, Philippines– Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago on Wednesday said she would announce her presidential bid when she gets well next month.

Santiago disclosed at a press conference that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer as of last week.

“’Pag galing ko (When I get healed) next month…I’m going to announce my presidential candidacy,” she said.

Asked if she was serious with her presidential bid, the senator made no categorical answer and instead pointed out the “mess” brought about by the Disbursement of Acceleration Program controversy.

She also pointed out to her million supporters on Twitter and other social media networks.

“It depends really. Maybe God will send me another disease,” Santiago joked.

Pressed if she would run in 2016, the senator gave a hearty laugh then said: “Well, if there’s nothing else to do.”
