Man kills cop
A municipal worker ran amuck after quarreling with his wife in Barangay (village) Nagbukel, San Isidro town, late on Thursday, killing one of the responding policemen and wounding another, police said.
Police said Emelito Da Jose, 47, was drunk and suddenly fired his .45-cal. handgun during a quarrel with his wife in his house at 11:45 p.m. Alerted by neighbors, SPO1 Dominador Ponce Jr. and SPO4 Decoroso Ruiz went to Da Jose’s house, but the gunman had left. Minutes later, Da Jose returned and shot Ponce in the face, instantly killing him. He also shot Ruiz in the leg, prompting the latter to shoot and kill Da Jose with his service pistol. Murder raps
A village watchman faces murder cases following the death of two minors in Esperanza town, Sultan Kudarat province, on Sunday evening.
Senior Inspector Esmund Llamazares, the town’s police chief, said the village watchman allegedly shot the two children while on routine inspection inside Esperanza Elementary School at 7:45 p.m.
Llamanzares, who did not name the suspect, said the barangay tanod had mistaken the children for thieves. The school administration has requested that a village watchman be detailed, especially at night, after attempted robberies have hit the school.

Trader shot dead
A businessman was shot dead by a lone gunman inside the victim’s drugstore in San Pablo City.
Supt. Ericson Dilag, San Pablo police chief, in a phone interview Monday, said William Dy Sy, 40, owner of an outlet of Botika ng Bayan in Barangay VII D, was inside the drugstore with a female storekeeper when attacked at 7:20 p.m. on Sunday.
“His helper had just stepped out to pick up stocks from their warehouse when the gunman entered the drugstore through a side gate,” Dilag said.
After the shooting, Dilag said witnesses from a tricycle terminal across the street saw the gunman walk away, “as if nothing happened.” The gunman didn’t cover his face, Dilag added. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
