Multiple trash bins in all QC public places pushed
MANILA, Philippines–A Quezon City councilor has pushed for the approval of a measure that will make it mandatory for operators or administrators of malls, parks and playgrounds to install separate trash bins for recyclable and nonrecyclable garbage.
Karl Edgar Castelo of the fifth district proposed that a P5,000 fine be meted out against violators.
In the draft measure, Castelo said that “shopping malls, parks and playgrounds accumulate large volumes of garbage and recyclable waste materials due to [the] considerable number of people [who] converge in these areas.”
The proposed ordinance aims to prohibit the use of single or common bins in all Quezon City shopping malls, parks and playgrounds and places the responsibility of complying with the law on their administrators and building managers.
Violators are to be slapped with a P5,000 fine and issued environmental violation tickets by the local environmental protection and waste management department, which is to be tapped as the primary ordinance enforcer.
