Boy battling cancer needs aid

Christian Dominique Alba

MANILA, Philippines–Nine-year-old Christian Dominique Alba was diagnosed two years ago with a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (the nerve sheath is the soft tissue that covers the nerve).

His condition resulted from a blow to the shoulder delivered by a playmate wielding a piece of wood, said Christian’s mother, Jennifer. The incident happened a month after Christian started attending school as a Grade 1 student.

“The wood landed on his left shoulder. The blow must have been so strong for his shoulder to swell that much. A month later, he came down with a high fever while the swelling did not subside,” she said.

Because of his condition, Christian was forced to stop his schooling to undergo chemotherapy. He has so far undergone nine sessions. He also goes to the Philippine Children’s Medical Center every three months for laboratory tests like CT scan and magnetic resonance imaging.

Jennifer appealed for help, saying her boy needs to undergo two more sessions chemotherapy for which they would need at least P100,000. Her husband, Ace, the breadwinner, is a construction helper in Bataan province.

Donors can contact Jennifer at 0910-8251056 and deposit their financial aid in her husband’s BPI Family Savings Bank (account holder Ace L. Alba with account number 5076493253).
