Benilde student dies, 3 others injured due to alleged hazing

MANILA, Philippines – A College of St. Benilde (CSB) student and alleged victim of hazing was found dead on Saturday evening, police said Sunday.

Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said 18-year-old Guillo Cesar Servando was found unconscious with three other students in a condominium unit at One Archer’s Place in Taft, Manila.

Margarejo said the students recalled being brought to an undisclosed place for the initiation rites on Saturday afternoon. They got back to the condominium unit at around 9:30 p.m. the same day.

“Si Servando, sa kanilang statement, fell on the floor unconscious. And s’yempre that prompted ‘yung isang kasamahan nila si John Raval to call Patrol 117,” he said.

(According to their narration, Servando fell on the floor unconscious. That prompted one of his companions, John Raval, to call Patrol 117.)

However, when the Philippine Red Cross came, they were no longer able to revive the second-year BS Hotel, Restaurant and Institution Management student.

“He was declared dead on the spot,” Margarejo said.

The three other students, identified as John Paul Raval, Levin Flores and Lawrence Ramos, were said to have bruises on their bodies.

They were brought to Ospital ng Maynila before being transferred to the Philippine General Hospital.

Margarejo said they are still waiting for the autopsy results, as well as the sworn oaths of the three other victims.

He said they are already looking into a certain group but cannot divulge information because of the ongoing investigation.

However, initial reports said the students were applying to join the Alpha Kappa Rho fraternity.

Margarejo said they have yet to speak with the victims’ families.
