TACLOBAN CITY— Josephine Delantar didn’t have money to start selling food again after Super Typhoon “Yolanda” took everything she owned.
Out of a job, Delantar decided to take part in the cash-for-work program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Even if the employment was good for only 15 days, she said the P3,900 that she got from the DSWD was a big help.
Delantar, 45, a resident of Barangay (village) Bagacay here, is one of 2,816 storm survivors from the city’s 135 villages who took part in the DSWD cash-for-work program.
Each beneficiary receives P260 a day, the current daily minimum wage in Tacloban City, or P3,900 for 15 days, to clean the city streets of debris left by Yolanda.
The DSWD has set aside P34.4 million for the program in Tacloban, which started on June 9 and will end in July. Joey A. Gabieta, Inquirer Visayas
