Manila, Philippines—Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Thursday praised President Benigno Aquino III, calling him her “constant source of inspiration.”
“Our guest of honor and speaker is one whose noble leadership, deep commitment to good governance and genuine vow to follow the ‘tuwid na daan’ and the rule of law has always been my constant source of inspiration and courage in pursuing the truth without fear or favor,” De Lima said as she introduced the President during the 123rd foundation celebration of the Philippine Bar Association (PBA) at the Manila Polo Club.
“Without the public trust reposed in him and his administration these revelations about corruption which has been (tainting) our society and system of government from within would probably had not have the opportunity to see the light of day,” she said.
During his speech, Aquino recalled the impeachment of former chief justice Renato Corona.
He also lauded the PBA for being a “consistent voice for the rule of law.”
He said it is important for such groups to “not pander to public sentiment, but raise the level of discourse.”
