MANILA, Philippines – Three individuals charged with graft for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam were allowed by the Sandiganbayan to reduce their bail by half.
Associate Justice Roland Jurado, chairperson of the anti-graft court fifth division, said bail for Ninez Guanizo, Victor Cacal and Rhodora Mendoza of the National Agribusiness Corp. (Nabcor) was at P15,000 per charge from P30,000.
Each of the accused faces five counts of graft. This means they would only have to pay P75,000 each, from the original P150,000.
The officials were accused of graft for allegedly using Nabcor as an implementing agency to course billions of public funds to the fake foundations of alleged mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles.
The anti-graft court is hearing the biggest corruption scandal under the Aquino administration — the alleged pillaging of public funds to ghost projects for kickbacks. Those facing plunder charges are Senators Estrada, Ramon Revilla Jr. and Juan Ponce Enrile. Estrada and Revilla have surrendered to the police and are currently detained in Camp Crame.
