MANILA, Philippines–Expect greater police visibility in Taguig City with the addition of 100 new law enforcers to its police force.
Taguig officials announced on Monday the deployment of 97 more lawmen from the National Capital Region Police Office to “promote peace and order” in the city, boosting its police force to a total of 487.
City police chief Senior Supt. Arthur Felix Asis said this would improve the police-population ratio in Taguig, currently at 1:2,700 compared to the ideal 1:500.
“We recognize the problem of insufficient manpower in our security force. Working together with the local government, we are maximizing the resources available to ensure that our constituents will feel safe and secure,” Asis added in a statement.
Mayor Lani Cayetano said the new law enforcers would be distributed among the city’s 28 barangays (villages) with the areas with the lowest number of police personnel getting top priority. She also expressed confidence that “these men and women in uniform would make a good impact on the city’s security force” and help in the local government’s goal for Taguig to be a “premier city.”–Jaymee T.
