MANILA, Philippines– Atty. Richard Cambe on Monday filed a motion for bail on his plunder charges over the pork barrel scam.
Cambe is co-accused in the plunder raps of Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. He is the former legislative staff officer of Revilla.
In his motion filed before the Sandiganbayan first division, Cambe said he should be allowed to post bail because “the supposed evidence of his guilt is not strong.”
He added that he did not act in connivance with the others accused in plundering at least P50 million in public funds.
He also said there is no evidence that he amassed ill-gotten wealth.
“In sum, not only the evidence is not strong, against accused Cambe, but there is absolutely no evidence against him,” the motion read.
“Therefore, bail becomes a matter of right for him,” it added. Plunder is a non-bailable criminal offense.
Cambe and Revilla both surrendered to the police after an arrest warrant was issued against them. They are now detained in separate cells at Camp Crame.
