Student-run radio program receives CAMMA award

A student-run radio program Sugbuanon Na Ni! was awarded as best radio program in the development program category to the Cebu Archdiocese Mass Media Awards (CAMMA).

The CAMMA awards night was held last Aug. 28 at SM City Cebu Cinema 1 with the theme, “Truth, Proclamation and authenticity in the digital age.”

Sugbuanon Na Ni! is a two hour radio program aired weekly over dyAB AM radio that features Cebuano songs, dramas, poems and grammatical lessons with RC Dalaguit as co-anchor.

It is run by the Cebu Alliance of Mass Communication Students (CAMS) headed by Bien Fernandez.

Dalaguit said the radio program promotes Cebuano language and culture.

CAMS runs the program to encourage participation among the youth.

“The program is for the youth, who are strangers of their own culture and heritage, to relate,”  Dalaguit said.

“The program upholds Cebuano values, arts and pride,” she added.

CAMS president Mier Villegas from the University of San Jose-Recoletos said the program is also a venue where Mass Comunication students can enhance their radio hosting skills.

Sugbuanon Na Ni won the award and bested lone contender Urban Poor Reduction from dyRC in the development program category.

CAMS, together with Dalaguit, vowed to continue promote Cebuano culture through the program aired every Sunday at 3 p.m. at dyAB. /UP Cebu Masscom student Annie Fe Perez
