MANILA, Philippines–Antoña Reyes of Caloocan City has a big chance of controlling her epilepsy attacks, thanks to early diagnosis.
But doctors at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center said the 7-year-old girl would need maintenance medicines like valproic acid and Levetizracin to prevent headaches and injurious falls during a seizure.
She also needs to undergo dental surgery, and have her decayed baby teeth removed before they begin to hurt and aggravate her headaches and seizures. Her mother, Luzviminda, is appealing to Inquirer readers for financial assistance, as the dental operation would cost about P43,000.
The dressmaker, who raises Antoña and another child by herself, also needs to allot P5,000 a month for Antoña’s maintenance medicines.
