MANILA, Philippines–Too hot and has rats and cockroaches. That’s how Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. described his detention cell at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center.
After Revilla spent his first night in jail, his wife Representative Lanie Mercado visited him on Saturday afternoon.
Mercado brought food and an ice cooler for his husband who complained that his detention cell was too hot.
Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, spokesman of the PNP, clarified that Mercado was only allowed up to the visitor’s lounge.
On Friday, the PNP said Revilla’s family and friends were only allowed to visit him on Thursday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Sindac, however, said the PNP is still finalizing the allowed visiting hours for the detained senator.
He said only the physician, lawyer and spiritual adviser of Revilla are allowed to visit him anytime of the day.
Meanwhile, lawyer Salvador Panelo, who visited as a family friend of the Revillas said the senator told him that there were cockroaches and rats inside his detention cell.
Revilla surrendered Friday in the Sandiganbayan and being detained on charges of graft and plunder in the P10-billion “pork” barrel scam case.
