Air Force man shot in Lapu

An Air Force man was shot and wounded while another Air Force man fell prey to armed robbers in separate incidents in Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue cities.

M/Sgt. Jesus Layones, 52, was shot by a motorcycle-riding assailant outside his house in barangay Pajo, Lapu-Lapu at 7 p.m. last Saturday.

Police said Layones sat on a bench when a man on a motorcycle arrived and shot the victim in the stomach.

The assailant drove off after the shooting.

Layones was rushed to the Mactan Airbase Hospital.

Police said the shooting could be a case of  mistaken identity.

It was possible that the real target was the victim’s son, who reportedly figured in a trouble with a group of youngsters, said SPO1 Manolito Abellanosa, homicide investigator of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

The incident will be investigated further, said police.

In barangay Banilad, Mandaue, Airman First Class Rufo Bokog and his two female companions lost cash and valuables to two armed robbers.

Police said that around 11 a.m., Bokog, Jesusa Japon, 30, and Anne Pocong, 29, were sat on a bench in front of an establishment on A.S. Fortuna Street when a motorcycle with two men on board stopped a few meters from them.

The two men approached Bokog and his companions and declared a hold up while pointing .45 pistols at the victim.

A laptop worth P40,000; three cellular phones worth P16,000; wallets containing P5,000; a necklace worth P11,000 and a watch worth P5,000 were taken from Bokog and the two women, said police.

Since he was off-duty, Bokog didn’t have his firearm with him, said PO1 Jay-r Galatin of the Casuntingan police.

Galatin said the robbers were identified through a photo gallery of suspected criminals.

An operation to arrest the robbers is ongoing, said police.
