MANILA, Philippines – Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada intends to file a motion for bail once the warrant of arrest is issued against him by the Sandiganbayan.
“If a warrant is issued, we will file a motion for bail,” Alexis Abastillas, one of Estrada’s lawyers, said in a text message.
She also said that they were planning to question the Ombudsman’s finding of probable cause before the Supreme Court.
“[We will also file] Petition for Certiorari to Supreme Court questioning finding of Ombudsman for probable cause. Otherwise, no other motions,” she said.
Radio reports said Friday afternoon that Estrada has been meeting with his legal team led by lawyer Jose Flaminiano since Friday morning, worried that a warrant would be issued before the day ends.
Flaminiano reportedly said that he would rather have the warrant issued against his client on Monday.
Lawyer Joel Bodegon, Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr’s lead counsel filed a motion for bail following the issuance of the warrant against the senator Friday morning.
Revilla is now in the custody of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame.
