The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila was established by virtue of Republic Act No. 4196 or the University Charter which was signed by President Diosdado P. Macapacal on June 19, 1965. It formally opened on July 17, 1967, and is recognized as the first tuition-free institution of higher learning in the Philippines. The campus is currently located in Intramuros, Manila.
