DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Police announced on Tuesday that the reward for information that would lead to the capture of suspects in the killing of businessman Richard King has been raised to P1.3 million, only days after Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and the victim’s family offered a P500,000 bounty.

Along with the release of the composite facial sketch of the suspect, the Davao City Police Office said the bounty would be given to anyone who could help the local police identify and find the killers.

King, owner of the Crown Regency Group of Hotels and Vital-C, a company producing health products, was shot at close range in the head while in a gathering of his distributors inside Vital-C’s building in Obrero last Thursday night (June 12).

Earlier, Duterte added P300,000 to the initial P200,000 reward money raised by the victim’s family whom he personally met after the killing.

Davao City is known for its motorcycle-riding vigilantes who target individuals allegedly involved in using and selling illegal drugs.

The facial sketch was generated based on the statements of the witnesses who saw the face of the gunman during the shooting.

Unlike the rest of the murder cases in Davao, the man who shot King was not wearing a motorcycle helmet to conceal his identity, the police said.

Witnesses said the gunman casually approached the victim from behind and shot him.

Investigators said a man on a motorcycle, who also served as a lookout, was waiting outside the building. The gunman boarded the motorcycle after shooting the victim and immediately fled the crime scene.

Police forces are following several leads in the investigation including the victim’s business ventures across the country.

King was the chair of Vital-C Health Products, Inc. and Vital-C Land Development Corp, the CEO of J. King and Sons, the president of Fuente Triangle Realty Development Corp and the founder and director of Boracay Multiple Properties Developers Inc.
