TAYUG, Pangasinan—At least 39 people have been treated in a government hospital here in the last eight days for suspected food poisoning after eating salted eggs, a hospital official said on Monday.
The patients, who were mostly from this town and neighboring Sta. Maria town, complained of diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain, and had fever, said Dr. Alfredo Sy, chief of Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital (EPDH).
Sy said they all claimed to have eaten salted eggs bought from ambulant vendors, sari-sari stores and public market vendors in their towns.
The hospital started treating patients on June 8, when two members of a family of four from Sta. Maria town were confined. Another three from this town were admitted that day, he said.
On Sunday, four more from this town and neighboring Natividad and San Nicolas towns were confined.
The oldest patient was an 81-year-old man and the youngest, a 2-year-old boy, said Claudio Marinas, a nurse at the EPDH district epidemiology surveillance unit.
The patients were confined in the hospital for two to three days. Gabriel Cardinoza, Inquirer Northern Luzon
