Gun-for-hire held

DAVAO DEL SUR–Police on Friday arrested a suspected gun-for-hire tagged with the killing of a bookkeeper of a Davao City village several months ago.

Chief Insp. Arvin Avelino, provincial officer of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Davao del Sur province, said the suspect, 34-year-old Ramil Galabin, a resident of Hagonoy town, was arrested during an operation in Barangay Aplaya here.

He said the suspect would face a murder charge in the Regional Trial Court Branch 10 in Davao City over his alleged involvement in the slaying of a Dodong Nuñez, a bookkeeper under village chief Robert Olan-olan of Barangay (village)

76-A in Davao City  while Galabin was a member of the barangay’s police force.

Senior Supt. Joel Pernito, CIDG chief for Eastern Mindanao, said Galabin disappeared from Barangay 76-A after being implicated in Nuñez’s murder. “He was working on a construction site in Barangay Aplaya when we arrested him based on a warrant arising from that case,” Avelino said. Galabin denied any involvement in the slaying of Nuñez.

The suspected gun-for-hire is being held temporarily at a Digos City police lockup cell. “We are awaiting the court order so that we can transport him to Davao,” Avelino said. Eldie Aguirre, Inquirer Mindanao
