3 killed in crash

MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL –Three persons were killed when the motorcycle they were riding crashed head on with a passenger van between Clarin town and Ozamiz City on Friday evening, police said on Saturday.

Police identified those killed as driver Walter Basmayor, 44, of Ozamiz City, and his passengers Marshal Navarro, 41, and Christian Buhisan, both of Barangay (village) here.

The motorcycle came from Ozamiz and was entering Clarin when it crashed into the Ozamiz-bound van, driven by Leony Brillo, on a blind curve around 7:30 p.m. None in the van were harmed, police said. Tito Fiel, Inquirer Mindanao

Gun-for-hire held

DAVAO DEL SUR–Police on Friday arrested a suspected gun-for-hire tagged with the killing of a bookkeeper of a Davao City village several months ago.

Chief Insp. Arvin Avelino, provincial officer of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Davao del Sur province, said the suspect, 34-year-old Ramil Galabin, a resident of Hagonoy town, was arrested during an operation in Barangay Aplaya here.

He said the suspect would face a murder charge in the Regional Trial Court Branch 10 in Davao City over his alleged involvement in the slaying of a Dodong Nuñez, a bookkeeper under village chief Robert Olan-olan of Barangay (village)

76-A in Davao City  while Galabin was a member of the barangay’s police force.

Senior Supt. Joel Pernito, CIDG chief for Eastern Mindanao, said Galabin disappeared from Barangay 76-A after being implicated in Nuñez’s murder. “He was working on a construction site in Barangay Aplaya when we arrested him based on a warrant arising from that case,” Avelino said. Galabin denied any involvement in the slaying of Nuñez.

The suspected gun-for-hire is being held temporarily at a Digos City police lockup cell. “We are awaiting the court order so that we can transport him to Davao,” Avelino said. Eldie Aguirre, Inquirer Mindanao
