Kidnapped businessman in Sulu freed by captors

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines—A local businessman who was kidnapped in October 2013 was freed in Jolo, Sulu, on Tuesday afternoon (June 10), a belated police report said.

Senior Superintendent Abraham Orbita, Sulu police chief, said John Hablo II, owner of a hardware in Jolo, was freed in the village of Busbus in Jolo on Tuesday noon.

The victim said an unidentified man left him at the gates of his residence in Busbus, Orbita said.

Orbita said the police had no idea if the family paid ransom in exchange for Hablo’s freedom.

Hablo was abducted in Patikul town on October 22, 2013.
