MANILA, Philippines – The number coding scheme for vehicles in Metro Manila is being lifted this Thursday, June 12, the Philippines’ 116th Independence Day and a regular holiday.
This means that under the traffic scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 7 and 8 can travel.
Malacanang’s official Twitter account reminded the public of the holiday with a hashtag #walangpasok. June 12 is included in Proclamation No. 655, or a list of holidays and special holidays for 2014.
Last Sunday, the Palace said over state-run radio dzRB that June 13, a Friday, was not a holiday, as what has been practiced under former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s “holiday economics” when a regular working day is declared a holiday if sandwiched between a holiday and a weekend.
