MANILA, Philippines –Three members of the Aquino Cabinet, who had been bypassed several times since they assumed office, have been finally confirmed by the powerful Commission on Appointments.
The three are Justice Secretary Leila De Lima, Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman and Environment Secretary Ramon Paje.
No member of the Commission objected when two separate motions to confirm Soliman and De Lima were made on the floor.
In the case of Paje, however, Senator Sergio Osmeña voted no to his confirmation.
Aside from the three Cabinet officials, the Commission also confirmed the appointment of two commissioners of the Commission on Audit (COA).
No member of the CA also objected when separate motions were made to endorse the confirmation of COA commissioners Heidi Mendoza and Jose Fabia.
Mendoza’s term will expire on February 2, 2018 while Fabia’s term will expire on February 2, 2020.
