MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Palawan deployed additional volunteer teachers to Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea, Radyo Inquirer 990AM reported.

The report quoted Lieutenant Junior Grade Greanata Jude as saying that the PCG sent Apprentice Seaman Oliver Mazo, a licensed teacher before becoming a member of the coastguard, 2nd Seaman Jeffrey Malimban and Apprentice Seaman Ardelino Opinaldo. They will teach the students of Pag-asa Island in Kalayaan town.

The three PCG volunteers trained to teach the K-12 program of the Department of Education (DepEd).

In 2012, DepEd opened a school in Pag-asa Island so students would no longer travel to Palawan for schooling.
