22 hurt in collision of ‘accident-prone’ buses on Commonwealth Avenue

MANILA, Philippines–‎More than 20 passengers and one bus driver were hurt in a collision of two buses in front of a hospital along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City early Tuesday.

Jerry Fortuna of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Sector 5 told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview that the Nova Auto Transport bus apparently ‘rear-ended’ the Fermina Express bus on the southbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue.

At 5 a.m. Tuesday, Fortuna said the driver of Nova bus rammed into the back of Fermina bus in front of Fairview General Hospital.

The driver of Fermina bus and at least 21 passengers suffered from minor injuries.

Fortuna said all of the casualties were brought to East Avenue Medical Center‎ while one was rushed to St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Currently under the custo‎dy of the QCPD traffic sector 5 is the driver of Nova bus.

Fortuna, however, said both drivers will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to properties.

As of posting time, the traffic has been cleared along Commonwealth Avenue.

On June 2, 17 passengers were hurt after an Everlasting bus also rear-ended a Joyselle Express bus on the westbound lane of the said highway, which has been dubbed a “killer highway” in Metro Manila for the numerous accidents that take place there.
