Today, June 10, is the 86th birth anniversary of National Scientist for Demography Mercedes Concepcion. Born in 1928, she was honored as the first Filipino demographer by the Philippine American Foundation in 2002. She was also the first woman to chair the United Nations Population Commission from 1969 to 1977. She received the National Scientist Award in 2010.–Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
