Widow shot dead by home intruder in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines — A middle-aged widow was shot dead by an armed man who barged into her Quezon City home without warning on Sunday afternoon.

Dolores Butcho, 57, was attacked right inside her house in Barangay (village) Holy Spirit as she was watching television.

The murder was witnessed by a neighbor, who was also watching TV with the victim at that time.

The case investigator, Police Officer 2 Rhic Roldan Pittong, said the shooting happened at around 5 p.m. at the victim’s house on Fort Magsaysay Street.

As Butcho and a female neighbor were watching TV, a man wielding a handgun suddenly entered the house.

The neighbor ran out of the house in fear, after which she heard two gunshots.

The gunman was seen fleeing toward Luzon Avenue, where another man on a motorcycle was waiting for him.

Pittong said the second man possibly acted as a lookout while the gunman carried out the attack.

Butcho’s relatives rushed her to the General Malvar Hospital, where she died at around 5:23 p.m. that day due to gunshot wounds on the left side of her head.

Police believe that the assailant was armed with a caliber .45 pistol, based on the spent shell recovered from the crime scene.
