MANILA, Philippines–Without supporting documents, businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles cannot prove that the contents of her affidavits are true, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said Friday.
Napoles, through her lawyer Bruce Rivera, said they were opting to have a tight hold on the documents in his client’s possession related to the pork barrel scam after the Ombudsman denied her request for immunity.
“If she will not give the documents we need for the vetting and verification process [of her affidavits], how can she prove that she is telling the truth,” De Lima said, adding that giving the documents will help Napoles.
“She needs to cooperate. We need proof, not only her words,” De Lima said.
The DOJ and its attached agency — the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is asking Napoles to provide them the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO), the endorsements from the Department of Budget and Management and the implementing agencies.
De Lima said they never gave the Napoles camp any promise that the request of immunity would be granted and would talk to her lawyers.
